Don’t wear that, you look like an aunty

Aunty- like it’s a bad thing, growing old

Outdated. Old. Undesirable.

Like the stretchmarks on her body and the wrinkles on her face are an insult

Her silver hair, pleated in a braid

Each strand screaming wisdom and courage and beauty

Each wrinkle etched with the battles she has faced

And survived.

So please, go ahead.

Call me an aunty,

But only do it when you mean it as a compliment.

People tell me, “OMG” you got silver on you forehead why don’t you dye them? I just pass a smile and don’t say a word because I know why I have got them. 🙂
